5 THINGS

YOUR TRANSITIONING CHILD WANTS YOU TO KNOW

No-Yell™ Parenting Presents

An on-line parenting class from

Kathy Whitham, RN

For over 10 years, Kathy has worked with hundreds of parents in workshops and dozens with one-on-one, in-depth coaching, helping them avoid power struggles and nurture deeper, more connected family relationships. As the mom of a son who came out as transgender 11 years ago, at age 20, she has intimately experienced many of the feelings and challenges that come from raising a transgender or gender non-conforming child.

This 1 1/2 hour parenting class was created in collaboration with my adult transgender son to bring his unique "inside" perspective from the other side of transition in order to help you feel calmer and more confident about how to best support your child.

Dear parent or caregiver,

As the parent or caregiver of a transgender and gender non-conforming kiddo, you face challenges every day to keep them safe, not only from an unfriendly world, but safe from themselves. Sometimes, feeling scared and out of control becomes the norm.

It’s easy to feel caught between a rock and a hard place - between your own feelings of overwhelm and uncertainty and your desire to support and help your child.

The temptation can be to “lean forward” toward your child. This can look like the following:

  • Self-judgement

  • Taking their behavior personally

  • Walking on eggshells

  • Asking them, “Are you sure?”

  • Wanting to rush their process

If any of the above resonates, you're invited to this 1 1/2 hour video class where you’ll learn how to “lean back” into solid parent-centric principles that can guide you to the most effective parenting solutions to help you and your child feel good about yourselves.

During this class, the following issues will be included:

  1. dealing with difficult behaviors in a way that doesn't perpetuate them

  2. helping your child feel good about themselves while building trust

  3. sorting out typical childhood issues from gender issues

  4. learning to stop walking on eggshells

  5. balancing how to give your child agency with providing guidance & boundaries

There will be time for your questions and stories throughout the class. â€‹
