A Break From the Exhaustion of Parenting

Parenting can be exhausting!
You show up for your child, 24/7, no matter how tired you are. The need for a break is real… and often impossible.
You can be harder on yourself than you are on anyone else in your life. You can drown yourself in “shoulds” and constantly judge yourself as not-enough.
Being surrounded by the myth of parenting perfection in our culture can rob you of your energy and your joy.
I feel sad for younger Kathy, parenting three kids and being soooo hard on herself. Looking back, it wasn’t only exhaustion that robbed me of my joy. It was the constant self-criticism that made it even harder to be present and able to enjoy my kids.
I wish I had known the following back then.
One of the most powerful forms of self-care is changing how you speak to yourself.
The way you speak to yourself becomes part of the emotional climate at home. When you begin treating yourself with more compassion, it can feel like the first truly warm day in June when you suddenly realize you’ve been bracing against the cold for months.

What if taking a break didn’t have to mean getting away or even having a spa day?
What if it meant taking a break from the voices in your head that say:
I should be handling this better.
Why can’t I be more patient?
Why am I the only one?
What am I doing wrong?
What if you took a break from the constant second-guessing, self-judgment, and pressure to get parenting “right”?
Because those thoughts don’t just drain your energy; they make it harder to be present and connect with your child.
I invite you to try the following simple practice this month:
>>Each night before bed, write down 3 things you did well that day. Just that.
Over time, noticing what’s right can begin to lighten your spirit and open your heart.
Because parenting is hard enough without the added pressure of believing you’re never enough.
